Prepare and promote 5G for the needs of Metavers
Duration and funding: 3 years – 13.2M€
The 5GMetaverse project aims to prepare and promote 5G for the needs of the metaverse. It therefore focuses on the necessary evolutions of the 5G information system and 5G networks for the metaverse, from the service order expressed by the metaverse to the 5G information system to the concrete provisioning of 5G network services (dedicated metaverse slices), in compliance with the requirements in terms of latency, bandwidth, quality of immersion and experience in the metavers.
CONTEXT
This project aims to drive the development of innovative products, services, and solutions that will transform industrial services, particularly in remote collaboration and production optimization. As industries continue their digital transformation toward smart factories, most companies are already investing heavily in and leveraging the core technologies behind the industrial metaverse. While these technologies are becoming increasingly crucial for industrial metaverse applications, they primarily focus on overlaying virtual information onto real-world operations. By analyzing operators and their influence on the production chain within the metaverse, an intelligent model could provide personalized assistance, enhancing productivity and reducing operator fatigue.

CHALLENGES

Technological advancements have increasingly blurred the lines between physical and digital worlds. Cloud computing and mobile devices revolutionized connectivity, and today, Mixed Reality and Spatial Computing drive a new wave of innovation, which this project aims to support.
While exocentric approaches are well explored, Mixed Reality applications require portable systems, making an egocentric perspective essential. However, gesture and posture analysis from this viewpoint is challenging due to sensor occlusions. Accurate pose estimation remains crucial for projecting operator movements into the metaverse and providing meaningful feedback, enabling intelligent, adaptive tutoring and monitoring systems.
